UPDATE (4:30 p.m.) – The man was pulled to safety at about 4:20 p.m. Firefighters say he was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Emergency crews are working to rescue a man who fell an estimated 60 to 70 feet down a well in Santa Barbara.
It happened at about 3:15 p.m. in the 2600 block of Puesta del Sol.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the man was standing on something that was covering the well while doing yard work. The cover broke and the man fell into the narrow, abandoned water well.

Fire officials say the man is injured but conscious and talking with rescue crews.
A firefighter is being lowered into the well in order to fit the man with a harness so he can be pulled back up to safety.
