Vandenberg Air Force Base is officially going solar.
The base will now operate off of a solar array system that covers about 180 acres on the base and is tied directly to the power grid.
Base officials say the solar system will power about a third of the all the base’s energy needs.
At 10 a.m. Tuesday, base officials will dedicate the new solar power system and talk about the impacts it will have on the base.
