Sheriff: Suspicious suitcase deemed safe after prompting school, traffic closures

Posted

A suspicious package put a high school on lockdown in Goleta Tuesday morning.

Authorities got a call regarding an abandoned suitcase near the intersection of Turnpike Road and Hollister Avenue around 9:40 a.m. As a precaution, CHP and school officials put San Marcos High School on lockdown and re-routed traffic from the area.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad responded, and were quickly able to determine that the suitcase was abandoned and did not have any explosives inside. They deemed the suitcase not a threat to the public around 11:15 a.m.

School and traffic resumed as normal after authorities cleared the scene.
