To celebrate and support her, fellow students took part in the "Hedgehogs and Haircuts" event this past Monday, where they shaved their heads and cut their hair. Hedgehogs are Jill’s favorite animal.
Teacher Shauna Wilson says numerous children took part. One of the parents from Oakley Academy is a hairdresser and donated her time for the cuts.
Since her diagnosis, Jill has also reportedly becomes friends with The Voice contestant Pryor Baird after Wilson shared Jill’s story with the singer.
Baird has reportedly called Jill several times to see how she is doing and even sent her a video message while he is away competing on the show.
Wilson says Orcutt Academy has adopted the motto, "Life is Wonderful." That’s what the 1st grader told her mom recently when her mom told her that sometimes life can be hard.
A rummage sale is planned to help raise money for the family on Saturday, April 21, at Orcutt Presbyterian Church, 992 Patterson Rd., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A gofundme accounthas also been setup for the family and has, so far, raised more than $13,000.
