A motorcyclist was rescued Saturday afternoon after going over a guardrail on Highway 154.

The accident happened about two miles south of Painted Cave Road around noon.  The motorcyclist was with a group, who stopped after the accident happened, slowing traffic.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department had to hoist the motorcyclist from about 20 feet down the embankment before being taken to an area hospital.

Traffic on Highway 154 was stopped by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff Office for a short time between Painted Canyon Drive and Cathedral Oaks Road.  The highway was reopened around 12:40 p.m. with traffic slowly alternating through the area, however officers remained on scene.
