UPDATE (5:45 p.m.) – Fire officials have released more details about a fire that broke out near Skofield Park Sunday afternoon.
When firefighters first arrived on scene of a reported structure fire in the 1800 block of Las Canoas Rd. they saw heavy smoke billowing from a detached garage.
Everyone inside the home had escaped by the time firefighters got there.
Crews contained the flames to the garage, a portion of which had been converted into a bedroom.
Fire investigators have determined an electrical malfunction in the wall of the garage caused the fire to spark.
No one was hurt.
Firefighters were called to a structure fire in Santa Barbara Sunday afternoon. Flames reportedly jumped to nearby vegetation.
The fire broke out just before 4 p.m. in the 1800 block of Las Canoas Rd. on the southeast corner of Skofield Park.
