Saturday is National Prescription Drug Takeback Day.

It’s an opportunity for people to dispose of unused and unwanted prescription medication.

Officials say most illegal prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from home medicine cabinets.

There will be several spots on the Central Coast to take unused and expired prescription medication.

The San Luis Obispo California Highway Patrol will have a disposal box at its office on California Boulevard, the Guadalupe Police Department will have one in its lobby and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office and Police Department will each have one open.

Medications can be dropped of no questions asked from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
