Mountain lion struck, killed by vehicle near San Luis Obispo

Posted

A mountain lion was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 101 south of San Luis Obispo Thursday night.

Bob Stafford of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife says the cougar was an approximately 90-pound young adult male. It was not tagged or collared.

Stafford says Fish and Wildlife wardens collected the animal so it can be sent to the Wildlife Investigations Laboratory near Sacramento for a necropsy, which will determine whether the mountain lion had any underlying conditions before its death.
