The pool at Cuesta College hosted a free swim Saturday, ahead of their anticipated closure for a major remodel in May.
The Aquatic Center Complex is closing as a part of a scheduled Measure L Bond project.
Two of the existing pools will be replaced with a 50-meter competition sized pool and a 25-yard teaching pool. Currently the bigger pool is the right size to be an Olympic pool, but certain restrictions are holding the center back.
A new draining system, starting blocks and diving board will be updated and installed. Plus, a new restroom will be added to the enclosed area.
All the upgrades will also coincide with the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
"Our pool has had a great long life," said Sarah Hawkins, with the Aquatic Center Complex. "We’ve been here for over 40 years and it’s really outlived its usefulness and it’s time to put in a brand new facility."
The pool’s last day open is Thursday, May 3. The new facility is expected to be completed in fall 2019.
