A man was arrested near Paso Robles Sunday afternoon for stealing a car and then reportedly leading police on a search in the Salinas riverbed.

The unnamed man was spotted in a car that was reported stolen from San Luis Obispo early Sunday morning around 1:26 p.m.

When police tried pulling him over, he took off, and at one point, abandoned the car and ran into a large riverbed.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office was then assisted by units and a helicopter from California Highway Patrol, personnel from the Department of Fish and Wildlife, and patrol units from the Paso Robles Police Department.

Eventually they found the man and arrested him without any incident. The sheriff’s office says the charges are still being determined.
