UPDATE: (3:40 p.m.) – CAL FIRE reports at least one person was killed in the crash, which is being described as a "truck accident," east of the Cholame "Y." The fire burned about 1.5 acres of vegetation but forward spread has been stopped.

A crash closed Highway 41 between Cholame and Kettleman City Monday afternoon also catching the nearby hillside on fire.

A SIG Alert was issued just after 3:00 p.m. for Highway 41 near Highway 46. Highway 41 was closed at Highway 33 heading south and the Cholame "Y" going north.

Drivers are being told to use alternate routes as the closure could last up to an hour with traffic already backing up in the area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a car and big rig collided at about 2:52 p.m., leaving the big rig jackknifed and the car catching fire.

The fire then spread to nearby vegetation. Caltrans reports the big rig also overturned in the crash.

Emergency crews, including police, fire, at least one ambulance and a Calstar helicopter, were dispatched to the scene near the Kern County/San Luis Obispo County line.

No other information was immediately available.

KSBY has a crew heading to the scene and will have updates as they become available.
