A new veterans center opened in Lompoc Monday, with the goal of helping hundreds of veterans looking for work.

The Lompoc Veterans Center is sponsored and operated by Goodwill and will be located at the Goodwill workforce services building on H Street.

The goal is to help veterans become self-sufficient by providing them the tools to find and maintain jobs.

Staff will be on hand to help with job searches, work training and supportive services.

"You don’t want to see your veterans out on the street or unable to find employment you want to make sure that they’re really serviced and really cared for," said Michelle Seaberg, the veterans services coordinator.

The programs will be free for veterans and their families.
