All of the donations have been added up and "Day of Hope" organizers say more than $200,000 was raised during the event on April 11.

On that Wednesday, volunteers fanned out across Santa Maria, Lompoc, Santa Ynez, and Nipomo to sell special edition newspapers, raising money for the Mission Hope Cancer Center in Santa Maria.

This year’s goal was $190,000. With the newspaper sales and other donations combined, the Day of Hope raised a total of $211, 295 for the cancer center. That money will be used to help patients pay for things like travel expenses, gas, rent, utility bills, and other necessities.
