SMPD to host free training session for alcohol licensees

The Santa Maria Police Department is hosting a free training session with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) for those who serve and sell alcohol.

The training is for licensees, managers and employees to learn about serving alcohol safely, responsibly and legally, how to report crimes, and how to deal with difficult on-site situations.

Earlier this month, Santa Maria police conducted an ABC "minor decoy" operation in which a server at Cool Hand Luke’s was cited for serving alcohol to a minor. The server may face criminal charges and the restaurant could face administrative actions.

The free ABC training will take place from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16 at the Santa Maria Police Department, located at 1111 W. Betteravia Rd. To RSVP, visit the ABC website.
