Ellwood Elementary School in Goleta was locked down for about 20 minutes on Wednesday after authorities say a man locked himself in the office bathroom.
According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, Sidney Aldana, 33, walked into the school’s office at about 10:50 a.m. and asked for help, then made a suicidal statement and locked himself in the bathroom.
Deputies who responded talked to Aldana through the door and reportedly convinced him to exit the bathroom.
Authorities say Aldana is a transient who was wanted in Ventura County for failure to appear on a petty theft charge. Deputies say they also found drug paraphernalia in his backpack.
Aldana was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for the outstanding warrant and a charge of possessing drug paraphernalia. He’s being held on $7,500 bail. Sheriff’s officials say he will receive mental health services while in custody.
