An annual summer event in Lompoc won’t be happening this year.

The City of Lompoc has not given specifics on why organizers chose not to hold the Lompoc Valley Kennel Association Dog Show this year, but say one of the leaders, Pete DeSoto, is retiring, and called his leadership "integral to the success of this show in town for many years."

The all-breed dog show brought thousands of people – from visitors, breeders, trainers, and handlers – to the city every year.

The event, described as one of the top dog shows in the region, is still listed on the Expolore Lompoc website as taking place July 28 and 29 at Ryon Park.

City officials say they hope the show will return next year.
