Some students and staff were evacuated from Atascadero Middle School Thursday morning after a small fire broke out on campus, according to City officials.

Atascadero Fire responded to the school on the 6500 block of Lewis Avenue just after 8 a.m. and reportedly found light smoke coming from the doorway of one of the boys’ bathrooms.

Officials say school personnel were able to put the fire out before firefighters arrived.

Students were allowed back into their classrooms about 30 minutes later.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
