Dozens of generous donors are helping to put hundreds of local students through college.
More than 300 students received scholarships at the Allan Hancock College Foundation Scholarship Banquet Thursday night, totaling nearly half a million dollars.
Scholarship recipients sat with their donors, and once seated, students found out just how much their award was worth.
Emma Zumbro, an Allan Hancock College Graduate who will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall, could not believe the amount of $7,500 she received from the Will family.
"I was completely overwhelmed when I saw that I wasn’t expecting anything like that, of course, so I was very overwhelmed and I know it will be a big help to me as I transfer and continue my studies," Zumbro said.
Zumbro will start at Cal Poly in the fall and plans to become an English teacher.
