Charges have been filed against the man authorities say used a vehicle to kill a man he was arguing with in New Cuyama last summer.
Sheriff’s officials said Travis John Studer, 41, was found dead the evening of July 27, 2017 along the 5000 block of Highway 166. They say it appeared he had been struck by a vehicle after a fight on the neighboring property.
Investigators identified the suspect as Doug Allen Lewis, 34, of New Cuyama.
While Lewis was taken into custody at that time, it wasn’t until May 24 of this year that charges were filed.
The criminal complaint against Lewis lists those charges as leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death or serious permanent injury and being under the influence of a controlled substance at the time, which the complaint lists as methamphetamine.
He has pleaded not guilty.
Jail logs did not show Lewis in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
He is due back in court next month.
