An Oceano woman who struck and killed a cyclist on Highway 227 in the Edna Valley back in 2016 will likely be sentenced to probation.

Lisa Smith pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. She is expected to be sentenced to five years of probation, community service, and ordered to pay restitution and a fine. Sentencing is scheduled for late July.

Smith struck Bridget Dawson, 58, of San Luis Obispo, when she allowed her car to drift off the highway south of Biddle Ranch Road.

Dawson, a world-champion triathlete, died that night from injuries she sustained in the collision.
