Registered sex offender arrested, accused of touching girls in downtown SLO

Posted

A registered sex offender is back behind bars, accused of touching young children in downtown San Luis Obispo this week.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department says officers first detained Jonathan Oscar Davis after a mother notified them on Monday that she had caught the 43-year-old rubbing the hair of her 10-year-old daughter at Sephora.

Following his arrest for that allegation, police say another mother came forward saying Davis had grabbed the arm of her 8-year-old daughter in the downtown area the day before.

Police say it’s unclear what Davis’ motives were in that alleged incident.

Megan’s Law lists Davis as a registered sex offender out of San Luis Obispo County, being arrested in 2007 for annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18 and with a prior conviction for the same offense. According to Megan’s Law, he was released in 2008.

SLOPD says the latest accusations are similar, but not quite as severe, as the charges that landed him in jail more than 10 years ago.

Jail logs show Davis is being held on a charge of battery and other unlisted charges with bail set at $5,000. Police say they are working with the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office to file appropriate charges against Davis and to keep him in custody until he is arraigned.

Police ask anyone who may have also had children come in contact with Davis recently to contact them.
