The Atascadero Lake Park grand reopening and ribbon cutting ceremony was Tuesday.

City Council members, Park and Recreation commissioners and city staff were in attendance for the event that opened just in time for July 4.

The new Atascadero Lake Park playground replaces the former youth playground structure, which was smaller and did not meet the ADA accessibility requirements. This renovated playground has a larger, two-story structure with new swings including regular belt swings and toddler swings. It also has the all-weather equipment and rubber flooring for safety and for ADA accessibility.

The Housing Related Parks Grant provided funding for the project in 2017. Game Time, a playground manufacturer, gave a second grant of $73,000 for the project. In total, the cost of the project was $280,000.
