Temperatures heating up Thursday and continue to climb into the weekend

Thursday is going to serve as a transitional day for the Central Coast as daytime highs start to increase. A heat wave is fast approaching, which is why there is an excessive heat watch in effect until Sunday.

The interior valleys will be from the low 90 to upper 90s with mild 10-15 mile per hour winds. Looking ahead to Friday, expect those temperatures to jump about another 10 degrees into the triple digits. Hot temperatures in combination with low humidity mean fire weather. A fire weather watch is issued for the Santa Barbara County Mountains Thursday through Sunday as temperatures heat up and winds increase to 30 miles per hour.

The coastal valley temperatures on Thursday will range from the mid-70s to mid-80s. Expect some mid to high-level cloud coverage in the morning ahead of afternoon clearing that will bring a lot of sunshine. Similar trends will be seen along the coastline, only daytime highs will mostly be in the low to mid-70s. Don’t worry, they’re not left out of the heatwave. Low to upper 80s are in the forecast for the beaches Friday through Saturday.
