Hundreds of children laced up their sneakers for the Atascadero All Comers Track Meet this past Wednesday. It’s for people of all ages to compete on a real track.

On select Wednesday evenings throughout the summer, Atascadero High School’s track and field is open to everyone to compete. There’s even an over-60 division.

"The first event we had out here we had a 72-year-old man who comes and does the pole vault, so for those couch potatoes that are out there, 99-percent of them are younger than 72-years-old and you know what he says? ‘Bring it on. Let’s do this,’" said event organizer Keith Schmidt.

All events are available including high jump, long jump, hurdles, shot put, and running.

"It’s great fitness. It’s baseline fitness for your kids. It’s a great opportunity to get them out here and be active and there’s people from all over San Luis Obispo County here today. My kids have already made friends here in the first hour they’ve been here so it’s been awesome," said Chris Baptista.

Entry fee is $5 or $10 for the family. Show up stretched and ready to go as the events start at 3:30 p.m. with the older groups competing later.

This is the 14th year of the All Comers Track Meet. Donations go to the Atascadero Greyhound Foundation.
