A new Target store will be opening in Goleta, replacing the current Kmart center, according to the city of Goleta.
Target announced Tuesday their plans of opening a 117,000 square-foot store in 2019, located at 6865 Hollister Ave., Goleta; the corner of Hollister Avenue and Storke Road.
The store has signed a lease with Merlone Geier Partners, although the city plans to consider this project along with others in a design review by the city council on July 24.
"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Target and welcome a Target store to the city of Goleta," said Will Tipton, managing director at Merlone Geier Partners. "Bringing a well-loved brand with a terrific shopping experience will be great addition to the Goleta community."
About 200 people will be employed at the new location. Wages will begin at $12 an hour with an expected increase to $15 an hour by 2020.
This store is among hundreds of Target’s next generation store design. The store will reportedly have Order Pickup, a service that allows customers to buy online and quick in-store pick-up.
We reached out to Kmart to ask whether the store is closing, but they declined to comment.
