An Atascadero boy who’d been battling cancer for the past several years passed away Monday night, family and friends say.

Joshua Bedoya was diagnosed in 2015 with Stage 3 hepatocellular carcinoma, a type of liver cancer. He was 10 years old at the time.

Community members planned and held several fundraisers for Joshua over the past three years, raising thousands of dollars to support his family.

A GoFundMe page tells Joshua’s story through dozens of updates. It helped raise more than $16,000 for his family’s travels to and from Stanford Medical Center, lodging, food and medical expenses.

Joshua’s dad, Sal, announced his son’s passing on Facebook early Tuesday morning:

Condolences have been pouring in.
