The California firefighter killed July 14 battling the Ferguson Fire will be laid to rest on Monday.

Thousands are expected to attend a celebration of life for Braden Varney, a ten-year veteran of CAL Fire.

On Sunday, family and friends honored him in Modesto.

"It just ran in the blood," said CAL Fire spokesperson Jaime Williams to KCRA. "Braden just lived to work. He loved equipment, He loved being out there. He loved to build things. He just had a passion for it and he was really good at it."

Varney died when his bulldozer rolled down a ridge in steep terrain around the fire near Yosemite National Park.
