More than 880 competitive swimmers from across Southern California are competing in Santa Maria this week. The Santa Maria Swim Club is hosting the Junior Olympics Swim Meet from Wednesday, July 25 through Sunday, July 29.It’s the first time Santa Maria has hosted the event since 2004."We always go to this meet, but to be able to compete at home and sleep in our own beds, have parents and friends able to come down and watch and cheer them on makes it a little extra special," said Mike Ashmore, Santa Maria Swim Club Head Coach.During the swim meet, the Paul Nelson Aquatic Center will be closed to the public. Swim lessons will instead be held at the Santa Maria High School swimming pool, which will also be open for recreational swim from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
