The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office reports that additional human remains have been found on the shoreline in Isla Vista.

On Tuesday, a head and torso were found in the ocean near Camino Pescadero Park. Thursday morning, sheriff’s officials say a femur, fibula and tibia were found at Campus Point near U.C. Santa Barbara.

Sheriff’s officials say the remains are believed to be associated with each other, but they are so badly decomposed that it will take time to determine the age, sex and identity of the deceased person as well as the cause of their death.

Investigators are using DNA to compare the remains with records of missing persons in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties. Sheriff’s officials say they do not believe, based on preliminary dental record comparisons, that the remains are that of 17-year-old Jack Cantin, who was swept away during the Jan. 9 mudslide in Montecito and whose body was never found.
