Fire reported along southbound Hwy 101 in Goleta

UPDATE (7:55 p.m.) – As of 7:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported that all lanes of Highway 101 through the area were open.


UPDATE (6 p.m.) – Santa Barbara County Fire officials say forward progress of the fire has been stopped.

It burned about 2/5 of an acre of heavy brush between Highway 101 and the railroad tracks from Los Carneros Rd. to Fairview Ave. in Goleta.

Fire crews were expected to remain on scene for a few hours to conduct mop-up operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.


Firefighters responded to a brush fire along southbound Highway 101 near Fairview Avenue in Goleta late Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported shortly before 5 p.m.

The southbound slow lane was shut down and trains through the area were also stopped.
