Deputies arrest armed man in Solvang making threats with handgun

A man pointed a handgun at a person’s head while making threats in Solvang on Friday morning.

According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 600 block of Roskilde Road for a report of a man making threats with a handgun.

Timonthy Wayne Johnson, 57, fled the scene before deputies arrived. 

Witnesses said Johnson was in possession of an AK-47 rifle and other firearms, intoxicated, and possibly suicidal.

Law enforcement, with the help of air support from California Highway Patrol, located Johnson at a gas station in Buellton.

He initially refused to comply with deputies’ verbal commands, but was soon arrested at gunpoint without further incident.

The press release stated deputies found two loaded firearms in Johnson’s car, a .22 caliber rifle and the AK-47 rifle.

More guns and ammunition were found in his home after deputies obtained a search warrant.

Johnson was booked and faces charges of Criminal Threats, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Silencer, Possession of an Assault Weapon in California, Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public.

His bail is set at $50,000.
