The California Highway Patrol has identified the man who died when his car went off a cliff along Highway 1 in Big Sur Saturday as Anthony Joe Hernandez, Jr., 39, of Salinas.
The crash was reported just before 9 a.m. on July 28. Emergency crews found Hernandez’s car about 280 feet down a rugged cliff approximately 1/4 mile south of Willow Creek Road.
Hernandez was the only person in the vehicle.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
The wrecked vehicle was recovered from the bottom of the cliff on Sunday.
