"The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" event kicked off this Sunday, July 29th at the Madonna Inn.
The San Luis Obispo community came together on Sunday to help find a cure for cancer at the "Making Strides against Breast Cancer" event.
Participants gathered at the Madonna Inn to take part in a 3 to 5 mile walk to honor breast cancer survivors, and raise awareness about steps we can take to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer.
This event is held to raise awareness and money to fund research, support services, and early detection.
Local cancer survivor Jana Douma spoke at the event and says, "It’s mostly about the research, and that’s what we need to keep going, to help find the cure to cure people or put them in remission."
In addition to the support of the community, Making Strides SLO is also supported by many local businesses and organizations. This year’s sponsors include: Avon, Chevrolet, Walmart, French Hospital and many more.
