The Santa Maria Police Department is preparing for National Night Out next week, an event that brings together law enforcement and local residents.

Police officers from around the county will be out talking to community members.
"Everybody got to take a leap of faith in their life and this is a good chance to do that it’s a very open environment," said Officer Matt Jensen with the Santa Maria Police Department. "It’s very family friendly and I’d welcome anyone to come out and introduce themselves to me and I’ll do the same."
The event happens the first Tuesday ever August.
There will be free food, games and activities at the event at Preisker Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
