‘Ag Farm’ groundbreaking held in Santa Maria

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new education building in Santa Maria Monday morning. 

The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District unveiled the Career Technical Education Center/Ag Farm property, located just north of Elks Rodeo Grounds and east of Highway 101.

The 25-acre property will give students the ability to create projects with animal pens, livestock corrals, barn and farming land. Inside the building will be areas for workshops, classrooms commercial kitchen and a pavilion. 

"The new CTE Center and Ag Farm campus will have a tremendous impact on our students and the Santa Maria Valley for generations to come,” said Diana Perez, the SMJUHSD school board president. "It’s really an exciting historic time for the students, staff, community and the rest of the school board members. I can’t wait to see how these facilities will benefit kids.” 

Construction is expected to be completed by December 2019.
