Downed power lines in Santa Maria cut power from 4k residents

A little more than 4,000 people lost power in Santa Maria Monday evening.

PG&E says the outage was caused by two spans of wire down near Allan Hancock College, more specifically from east Betteravia Road to west Cook Street, and south College Drive to south Depot Street.

PG&E workers are still determining how the power lines went down.

Crews hope to restore power by 8:30 p.m., noting that their top priority is public safety. Residents should use caution in the area and expect potential closures for workers to clean up the power lines.
