Wildlife officials warned hunters to prepare their hunting plans ahead of time by including where public lands have been affected by wildfires.

The California Fish and Wildlife Department says fires have burned and otherwise impacted public lands in many locations normally used during the beginning of the fall hunting season.

The department says hunters should remember to research the areas where they plan to hunt or scout before their departure to avoid any closures or fire threats.

Current wildfire information is provided by CAL FIRE on California wildfires and InciWeb for wildfires around the country for most of the calendar year.

Fish and Wildlife says some national forests and/or campgrounds will have more specific information about potential road and camp closures as well.
