The "Showcase of Cities" display at the California Mid-State Fair was deemed a success for its first year, with Oceano and Nipomo taking home the People’s Choice Award.

Ten communities, including San Luis Obispo County and Cal Poly University, were featured in a large showcase meant to show residents the "best and brightest" aspects of their community.

Organizers hoped this showcase would encourage tourism and better opportunities for visitors.

The combination efforts of Oceano and Nipomo landed first place. Other participants were Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Cal Poly, Grover Beach, Morro Bay, Paso Robles, Pismo Beach, Templeton, San Luis Obispo, and Visit SLO Cal.

As the showcase was deemed a success, something tells us it could be on the books for the 2019 Mid-State Fair, which runs July 17-28.
