Renovations at Buena Vista Park in Santa Maria are nearly complete and the city is planning a Rededication and Grand Reopening celebration for the park this weekend.

The celebration will take place on Saturday, Aug. 11, beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m., followed by a family-friendly festival and resource fair from noon to 2 p.m. Free food and refreshments will be included.

Buena Vista Park, located at 800 S. Pine St., is Santa Maria’s oldest community park, originally dedicated in 1906.

Renovations started in September of 2016. The park’s new design includes gardens, trees, grassy play areas, basketball courts, walkways, a new playground, renovated restrooms, tetherball courts, a bandstand, and a space for community events. The design also pays tribute to the park’s 100-year history, with tile murals at the park’s entrance at Morrison Ave. and Pine St. that illustrate its beginnings.
