Santa Maria Police responded to reports of gang members gathering in Preisker Park.
On Wednesday at around 3:30 p.m. Santa Maria Police officers received reports of gang members gathering, showing gang signs, and showing a gun.
When officers arrived all the suspects ran off.
Officials say one of the suspects threw a handgun over a fence before he jumped the fence himself.
After a short chase, the suspect was caught and taken into custody. The handgun was located nearby.
He has been identified as 19-year-old Carlos Palma-Velazquez.
According to the police, Palma-Velazquez was booked into jail for resisting arrest, possessing a firearm and gang association crimes.
Officials say four of the other suspects were adults and one was a juvenile.
All five of the suspects were arrested and booked for probation violations. Officials say all five were either documented gang members or associating with gang members.
