Authorities with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted man after a short foot pursuit on Thursday.

Andrew Sebastian Lopez, 22, is on probation and was wanted on a no-bail arrest warrant. Sheriff’s officials say deputies spotted him walking through Goleta Beach Park and tried to make contact with him but he ran away. When a deputy caught up to him, they say Lopez sprayed water at the deputy and tried to punch him.

The deputy was reportedly able to take Lopez to the ground and take him into custody with the help of other deputies.

Sheriff’s officials say deputies searched Lopez’s backpack and found numerous hypodermic needles, a syringe loaded with what appeared to be heroin, and a key to a stolen vehicle. He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of resisting an officer with force, assault against a peace officer, and vehicle theft. Sheriff’s officials are also seeking charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin.

Sheriff’s officials say Lopez suffered a cut on his arm during the arrest and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
