Free seeds available at Santa Maria-area libraries

Posted

Gardeners can now pick up free seeds from any of the five libraries in the Santa Maria Public Library system.

Seeds for vegetables, spices and flowers are available at the libraries in Cuyama, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, Orcutt, and Santa Maria.

As part of the seed library system, patrons can take home up to three packets of seeds. Once the plants have grown and "go to seed," patrons are asked to return those seeds to the library to share with other community members or donate packets of fresh, commercially grown seeds to keep the libraries stocked.

The seed libraries also include a binder of instructional information on each available type of seed.
