It has been one year since a beloved Cambria surfer died in a fluke accident.

On Saturday, fellow surfers, friends and family met at the Cayucos Pier to paddle out in his honor.

Liam Alex Taylor — also known as "Skinny" — was 19 when he hit his head while surfing and later died on the Moonstone Beach.

Emergency crews weren’t sure what he struck his head on, but says the accident could’ve happened to anyone.

People paddled out to "pray, laugh and remember Skinny" one year after the accident.

His mother says the community keeps her going, along with keeping her son’s spirit alive.

"What makes me go on is that I got to listen and to hear him, even when it’s difficult, and I reflect on those times and I think ‘Wow I’m so glad I did that’. I’m so glad I have those memories," said Shelley Triggs, Liam’s mother.

His family continued to thank the community and visitors for all their support throughout this year.
