A local nonprofit organization is hosting a fundraising golf tournament to help central coast students with back-to-school shopping.

Shoes for Students provides gift cards to preschool through high school students who need clothes and shoes for the new school year. The 18th annual golf tournament will raise money to buy the cards.

Entry prices fall into several categories:

  • $150 buys 18 holes on the gold course, range balls, a cart, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks and activities
  • $35 buys dinner tickets
  • $200 begins sponsorship opportunities and incentives

The proceeds from the fundraiser will support school-age children throughout the Santa Maria Valley. Students can use the gift cards at Payless and Walmart. Staff will be giving out the gift cards at local schools, homeless programs and youth-centered agencies.

"There is a lot of need in our community," said founder Kate Ferguson. "Fortunately there are many organizations and nonprofits here that help meet those needs."

The fundraiser is scheduled for September 9. For more information on how to register, click here
