Next phase of road work near Sinsheimer Elementary starts this week

Posted

Roads near Sinsheimer Elementary School in San Luis Obispo will be prepped for construction starting Tuesday.

Crews will apply a surface treatment to the roads and re-stripe streets ahead of the next major phase of a road work project in the area starting Monday, Aug. 27.

Work will be done on Augusta, Bishop and Sydney streets, outside of school pick-up and drop-off times.

Some roads will remain open, but city officials say drivers should expect lane closures and delays on weekdays during daytime hours around Laurel Lane, Southwood Dr, Orcutt Rd and Broad St.

Detour information will be posted the day before work begins.

Over the summer, the city council approved a $2.5 million project to address roadway issues in the Laurel Lane neighborhood. In 2015, a report found the intersection of Laurel Lane and Southwood Dr. was the highest-ranking intersection for pedestrian collisions in the city.

The project aims to shorten the distance of crosswalks and provide a buffer for bike lanes.
