Front Fire east of Santa Maria grows to 900 acres

The Front Fire, burning off Highway 166 about 30 miles east of Santa Maria, has burned 900 acres as of Tuesday morning. It is 29 percent contained.

The fire broke out at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19 at the Rockfront OHV area in the Los Padres National Forest.

There are more than 600 firefighters assigned to the fire. Five helicopters are also being utilized.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
