Orchard Supply Hardware stores will close permanently by the end of the year, according to reports.

The company’s spokesperson, Jackie Hartzell, told NBC affiliate KNTV in the Bay Area that employees were informed of the shutdown Tuesday, and store liquidations would begin Thursday.

There are about 98 Orchard Supply Hardware store locations across California, Oregon and Florida. Locally, there are locations in Pismo Beach, Santa Maria and Paso Robles.

The San Jose-based chain has more than 4,000 employees across the company nationwide. Its parent company is Lowe’s.

The reason for liquidation has not been made clear. According to KNTV, a spokesperson offered little information about severance for employees.
