Detectives are following up on new leads into the 2009 murder of a Templeton man whose son has been named a person of interest in the case.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that a search was conducted Sunday at property along the 4000 block of Whispering Oak Way in Paso Robles.

Officials say the property was owned by Brian Greer at the time of his father’s death.

Metal detectors were used to aid in the search, which was only done on the exterior of the property, officials said in a press release.

Family members reportedly found Jerry Lee Greer shot to death in his home on March 28, 2009. The 71-year-old’s death was ruled a homicide.

After being named a person of interest in the case earlier this month, Brian Greer, a retired state correctional officer, spoke out to KSBY, saying he is innocent and wants to clear his name.

Authorities say they interviewed Brian Greer on August 16 of this year and also served a search warrant at his current home along the 1900 block of Fieldstone Circle in Paso Robles.

Authorities are not releasing additional details related to the case at this time.

Anyone who may have information about the murder of Jerry Greer is asked to contact detectives at (805) 781-4500.
