Arrests made in attempted robbery at Carpinteria marijuana cultivation facility

Posted

Two people are in custody in connection with an attempted robbery at a Marijuana Cultivation Facility in Santa Barbara County.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says the attempted robbery happened around 6:25 Wednesday morning at a facility on Casitas Pass Road in Carpinteria, not far from Highway 101. Deputies responded to an alarm going off at the facility. Employees said several people had broken into the area and used pepper spray on an employee before driving away in a U-Haul van with Arizona license plates.

Deputies and the CHP located the U-Haul driving southbound on Highway 101. The van eventually got off the freeway at Victoria Avenue in Ventura County. CHP officers stopped the van and arrested two people inside. Officers also found pepper spray inside the van.

The Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division is in charge of the incident. They’re looking into whether more people were involved.
