The community did its part Wednesday, donating blood for KSBY’s annual Be A Hero blood drive.

KSBY partnered with United Blood Services for the event. At least 65 people donated blood Wednesday, including some KSBY staff members. Donors received free tacos from 805 Taqueria.

The blood drive helps people who desperately need blood donations, including those involved in car accidents or people who are sick. Annie Blake was featured in several KSBY commercials promoting the event. She was diagnosed with Leukemia. She and her mom showed up Wednesday to check out the blood drive. "It’s very exciting to see people come out and wanting to help support the cause, donating blood. A few of our local friends who have seen Annie’s commercial came out just to donate today," said Annie’s mom, Misty Blake.

If you weren’t able to stop by on Wednesday, you can still donate. Just make an appointment with United Blood Services to make a donation at a time that works for you. For more information, click here.
